Introduction

New restaurants in San Ramon CA  have been arriving faster than any point in recent city history. Between January 2025 and spring 2026, eight restaurants opened across San Ramon -a Michelin-starred Indian fine dining room, a San Francisco Mediterranean operator that rewrote its menu for this community, a Cal-Italian named after two mothers who share the same name, Turkish cuisine making its first Tri-Valley move, an Oakland taqueria's only suburban expansion, and San Ramon's first 24/7 restaurant. Forbes, The Infatuation, Bay Area Telegraph, Diablo Magazine, and DanvilleSanRamon.com all covered San Ramon openings within a 12-month window. This guide covers every new restaurant worth knowing about, with honest assessments organized by occasion so you can make a decision quickly.

Why San Ramon's Restaurant Scene Is Growing Right Now

The city's dining expansion is driven by a specific combination of corporate density and community demand. City Center Bishop Ranch, the Renzo Piano-designed 300,000 sq ft complex on Bollinger Canyon Road owned by Sunset Development, houses 600-plus companies. Cloud Software Group expanded to 55,000 sq ft at City Center in April 2026. AT&T operates major Bay Area functions from Bishop Ranch. Jeff Dodd, Senior Vice President at Sunset Development, described the momentum in late 2025 plainly: each new restaurant adds human energy, and that energy compounds. The 2025-2026 opening wave is the result.

Openings split across two corridors. City Center absorbed the most ambitious concept-driven arrivals. San Ramon Valley Boulevard got a Cal-Italian rebirth in a neighborhood institution's former space and a 24/7 Mexican drive-thru filling a gap nobody had addressed.

Every New Restaurant in San Ramon Worth Knowing

KHAKI Indian Bar and Canteen -Summer 2025

KHAKI is the most credentialed new restaurant to open in San Ramon in recent memory. It arrived in summer 2025 on the second floor of City Center Bishop Ranch, in the exact 3,124 sq ft space previously occupied by Curry Up Now, and is led by Chefs Sujan and Pujan Sarkar, both Michelin-recognized. Chef Sujan Sarkar earned his Michelin star at Indienne in Chicago, one of the most critically examined Indian restaurants in the United States during its run. He holds a James Beard nomination. Forbes covered the opening in September 2025. Bay Area Telegraph named KHAKI among the seven most exciting new restaurants to open in the 925 area in 2025. The Infatuation included it in the San Ramon dining guide in February 2026. Google: 4.4 stars, 277 reviews. Dog-friendly, patio seating, full bar.

The menu is built around regional Indian cooking from Bihar, Kerala, Lucknow, Hyderabad, and Delhi. Three dishes define the kitchen:

Champaran mutton is Bihar-specific: meat sealed inside a clay handi with a dough lid, slow-cooked in its own rendered fat without added liquid. Named for Champaran district in northern Bihar. The dish is personal to owner Akash Kapoor, who grew up eating it there, and the full story is in the Champaran mutton in San Ramon post. It appears on no other Bay Area menu.

Meen Pollichathu is Kerala's most recognized fish preparation: pearl spot or pomfret wrapped in banana leaf with ground coconut-chili masala, cooked until the leaf chars. The char transfers flavor into the fish from the outside. Parchment-paper substitutes produce a steamed fish dish. This is the actual preparation.

Lamb shank biryani, dum-style: rice and protein sealed together, finished over indirect heat, saffron and whole spice absorbed into the grains as the lamb cooks alongside. One bite separates a properly constructed biryani from the assembled version most Bay Area Indian restaurants serve.

Alora Social -January 25, 2025

Alora Social opened January 25, 2025 at City Center Bishop Ranch as the second Bay Area location for AVB Hospitality -the group behind Rooh in San Francisco and Palo Alto, Fitoor at Santana Row, and Pippal in Emeryville. Executive Chef Nicholas Peters revised the menu specifically for San Ramon, leaning into shareable plates and pasta rather than the Embarcadero original's format. The frutti di mare bucatini with octopus, shrimp, mussels, and clams reflects that recalibration for tables of four and six. Pleasanton Weekly food writer Deborah Grossman reviewed it in August 2025. Mediterranean coastal menu, full bar, outdoor patio, bottomless brunch on weekends.

Rosmarino -2025

Rosmarino opened on San Ramon Valley Boulevard in the longtime home of Gianni's Italian Bistro, which owners Gianni and Melanie Bertoletti closed after nearly two decades. Partners Theresa Schreiber and Margarito Paz named the restaurant rosmarino -Italian for rosemary -after their mothers, who both happen to be named Mary. Diablo Magazine broke the story. Schreiber also owns Livermore's Azotea Cocina and Cocktail Bar. The menu is fresh California-influenced Italian that changes seasonally with local ingredients. The interior received a contemporary makeover. The new owners are continuing Tips for Change, the Monday evening tradition Gianni's started where local nonprofits serve as waitstaff and all tips plus a percentage of sales are donated to that charity. Open Wednesday through Sunday for dinner initially.

Meyhouse -Holiday Season 2025

Meyhouse arrived at City Center Bishop Ranch during the 2025 holiday season, taking over the 5,359 sq ft space vacated by Dumpling Time in March 2025. It brings regional Turkish cuisine and a convivial dining style to the Tri-Valley for the first time. The room is significantly larger than most City Center restaurants, suited to groups and extended meals. Meyhouse represents the first Tri-Valley expansion for a South Bay concept with an established following.

Rico Rico Taco -February 2026

Rico Rico Taco opened February 2026 at City Center Bishop Ranch in a 1,464 sq ft space between West Elm and Fieldwork Brewing Company -the spot vacant since C Casa closed earlier in 2025. An Oakland taqueria with a built reputation for handmade tortillas and spit-roasted al pastor carved fresh from the trompo, it chose San Ramon as its only suburban expansion. That decision reflects deliberate confidence: formats built around regulars and fresh daily prep don't expand into markets operators expect to underperform. El Forastero -December 15, 2025

El Forastero opened December 15, 2025 at 2222 San Ramon Valley Blvd in the former Wendy's drive-thru space that closed in fall 2025. It's the first Bay Area location for a chain with nearly 20 locations in greater Sacramento and the San Joaquin Valley. Mexican food served 24 hours a day, seven days a week: tacos, burritos, loaded fries, breakfast around the clock, dine-in, takeout, drive-thru, and delivery. San Ramon had no 24/7 restaurant before this opening.

Super Duper Burgers -March 2026

Super Duper Burgers opened a new San Ramon location in March 2026. The Bay Area-based burger brand uses California-sourced beef, house-made condiments, and offers a plant-based patty option. San Ramon extends the brand's East Bay presence as it builds beyond San Francisco.

Swaraj -2025

Swaraj introduced Maharashtra cuisine from western India to San Ramon's dining scene. Yelp reviewers note it as a clear departure from the North Indian menus that dominate most local Indian restaurants. Maharashtra-specific dishes include vada pav, misal pav, and Kolhapuri meat preparations that draw from entirely different regional traditions than the Punjabi-forward cooking common across the Tri-Valley.

Still Coming: Palmetto Superfoods

Palmetto Superfoods is opening near LB Steak at City Center in a 1,035 sq ft space. Founded in 2015 by Charles Lee, the acai bowl concept sources pure acai directly from producers with no added sugars. Existing locations are in San Francisco, Burlingame, and Walnut Creek's Broadway Plaza. San Ramon is its first Tri-Valley location.
